A Heavy Heart-In A Thanksgiving Season

Today the hearts of Americans are heavy. More specifically, the hearts of Christians; as we continue to try and process the events of Sunday, November 5, 2017 in the small, rural, town of Sutherland Springs, TX. As I reflect over this tragedy, it seems difficult to "Give Thanks." However, while this calamity was unfolding, all while many others around the world were gathered for worship, I was preaching a message entitled, "Give Thanks, for His presence." 

 The women, men, girls and boys were gathered at First Baptist Church (Sutherland Springs) for that alone; His Presence. They were prepared to worship, hear a message of hope in Jesus and encounter His presence. My heart breaks for the families who tragically have to say goodbye to loved ones here on earth. I pray for them. I pray for victims who survived and face days without their family and friends. But, I celebrate with those who came expecting His presence and today are living in the fullness of His glory! Paul, the Apostle, said in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 

It's hard to praise or give thanks when there is more questions than answers. It's hard to celebrate in the face of such affliction. However, as Christians, we should be thankful for His presence! I'm thankful that the 26 people we are hearing about in the national headlines are witnessing His presence today. I'm also grateful that those who remain can experience His presence according to Psalm 46:1, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 

 Please continue to remember these families and this community in your prayers.

Join me in praying:
Lord, may your Presence envelope these broken-hearted. Undergird them with Your strength.
Allow Your joy to be unspeakable and full of glory! Peace that surpasses all understanding - give to these this day! Charge the angels to encamp around them. Holy Spirit, be, what only YOU CAN BE, today, the Comforter and Paraclete! Comfort those mourning according to Your Word (Matthew 5:4.) In Jesus Name, the One above every other, we pray, Amen!

Be thankful today for every good and perfect give comes from the Father above (James 1:17.)

The Discovery

Like so many other, Christian, churches do the beginning of every new year; our church, LaFayette Church of God has embarked into a season of 21 days of consecrated prayer and fasting. For me, the pastor; I feel that this fast needs to be more than just doing without something. I believe it's about   The Discovery   that God wants to reveal to me and anyone hungry enough to pursue it.  A confession, I love any story that leads to some sort of discovery. I find myself intrigued with the process or the path that the story line has to take. So  the climax of the show, movie, or book becomes evident through  The Discovery.   It is almost as though a light bulb goes off. Now I don't confess to always uncovering the clue's. Sometimes I have to watch, or read the entire story so that I can see,  The Discovery,   through the actor/author. You know, I love everything about the Word of God because I still believe that it is true in its entirety. I believe it is without error, inspired and still the very relevant writ Word of God Himself. Although I love and appreciate it all, I, like you have some of my favorite passages. One of them is found in 2 Kings chapter 4 and begins in verse 18. It is the story of the Shunamite woman.  If you visit the earlier part of chapter 4 you find an account given where the Shunamite woman was unable to carry a child. Elisha, the man of God, visited her and her husband regularly so they prepared him a place to stay. During one of his visits he tells the woman by that time the next year she will give birth to a son. So the prophecy was fulfilled and she gave birth. Yet now we come to the best part, in my opinion.  Beginning in verse 18 you find the account of the child sitting in his mothers lap and dies. She places the child on her bed goes out and calls for her husband to send her a donkey
